THE BUTLER AND THE BALL is the first film by nine-year-old Andrew Chan-Possemato from Brooklyn, NY, who loves reading, gymnastics, swimming, and pizza. It is an urban fairytale about Ashton, a lonely boy with neglectful parents, who embarks on a global adventure when he enters a contest to become the new butler of a singer Bob Chan.
"I am a nine-year-old in fourth grade in New York, United States. I'm submitting my first film, THE BUTLER AND THE BALL, about a lonely boy who enters a contest to become the new butler of a grieving, reclusive singer.
The film won BEST YOUNG DIRECTOR - LIVE ACTION at Atlanta Children's Film Festival, BEST NARRATIVE FILM – UNDER 12 at International KidsNFilm Festival, BEST KIDS-MADE FILM at San Diego International Kids' Film Festival, and the UNDER 10 category at Prague Youth Film Festival. It was also a finalist at the Lantern & Light International Children's Film Festival in Australia, and was a semi-finalist for BEST SHORT FILM BY A YOUNG FILMMAKER at the Children Cinema Awards. The screenplay was co-written by Andrew Chan-Possemato and Albert M. Chan, based on a story by Andrew Chan-Possemato. Since Andrew Chan-Possemato was also the lead actor, Albert M. Chan and Richard Possemato had to be camera operators. Albert M. Chan edited the film.
The film was also nominated for Best Actor - 7 to 12 Years at The Children's International Film Festival of Wales.
